Champagne adds festive fizz

01 October, 2010

Champagne brands are getting ready for Christmas with some luxury gift packs.

Moët & Chandon has released a gold chill box that keeps wines cold for two hours, which will be sold with Moët Brut Imperial (rrp £28.99).

The Champagne house is also offering a personalised bottle service in Selfridges on London’s Oxford Street.

For six weeks customers will be able to buy a bottle or magnum of Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial personalised with Swarovski crystals, with a name, date or event of their choice. The service will start at £50 for a 75cl bottle.

Louis Roederer is releasing a limited number of Cristal Methuselahs, which hold eight times the volume of a standard bottle, from the five-star 2002 vintage.

The bottles are priced at around £10,000 and only a handful will be available in high-end shops.

Dom Pérignon is paying tribute to artist Andy Warhol with a new pop-art design. A collection of three bottles in red, blue and yellow aims to pay tribute to Warhol’s iconic colour style.

The new design will be on sale from mid-October priced £120 in Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Selfridges, and the wine will be from the 2002 vintage.

Freelance wine consultant Laura Clay has beaten wine educator Gilbert Winfield and wine writer Helen Savage to win the UK Champagne Ambassadors Award. Clay will go on to represent the UK at the European final in France on October 25. The award was launched by the Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne in 2005 to recognise and reward the work of wine lecturers, tutors and teachers.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
