Revamp for Londis and Budgens wines

Budgens and Londis have given their French and Italian ranges a new look in the run-up to Christmas.

The ranges have been given distinctive, contemporary labels that aim to make it clear which country they are from, while back labels have more information on the style of wine, wine industry taste standards, serving instructions and allergy information.

The French range includes a Fitou, Corbières and Rosé d’Anjou among other AOC, vin de pays and table wines, while the six-strong Italian range focuses on classic regions including Frascati and Chianti.

“We are capitalising on the opportunity to further grow wine sales since the economic conditions favour the off-trade as consumers look for a cheaper alternative to going out to drink,” said trading director Willie Hamilton.

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
