Biggest ever Fairtrade tasting

15 October, 2010

The fifth and biggest annual Fairtrade wine tasting – which will showcase more than 100 wines from 11 importers – is to take place on October 21 at the Fairtrade Foundation offices in London.

Sales of Fairtrade wine have grown to more than 6.7 million litres across the on- and off-trades over the past year, according to event organiser the Fairtrade Wine Committee.

Growers and farmers producing Fairtrade wines will be at the tasting to show how the money they receive through the scheme has helped maintain their families and improve their communities, as well as invest in quality and NPD.

Wine importers and Fairtrade Foundation staff will also be there to discuss their vision for Fairtrade wine over the coming five years.

“Consumers are continuing to include ethical considerations in their purchase decisions,” said Kate Lewis, business development manager for wine at the Fairtrade Foundation. “In the past five years Fairtrade wine has gone from strength to strength, offering an excellent product with an engaging human story behind it.”?Agencies including Bibendum, International Wines, Laithwaites and Thierry’s will show wines at the event
