Miners' rescue prompts Chilean wine surge
Published:  15 October, 2010

The rescue of the 33 Chilean miners has prompted a surge in sales of wines from Chile, according to a report.

Waitrose saw sales of Chilean wine increase by 25% yesterday, buyer Nick Room told the Telegraph.

Oddbins said it had experienced a 10% rise in sales of Chilean wine in recent weeks, but said the increase may also have been influenced by promotional activity and a range review.

Nielsen figures for the year to July 2010 reveal that Chile’s total off-trade sales grew 12% in volume and 14% in value, a performance bettered only by New Zealand.
