Sweet tea liqueurs: the next big thing?

29 October, 2010

Sweet tea liqueurs could be the next UK drinks craze with the arrival of US products on UK shores.

Diageo GB is selling its Jeremiah Weed brand exclusively in JD Wether-spoon pubs initially, and Hi-Spirits is distributing Firefly, a brand from the Sazerac stable in the US.

Jeremiah Weed is a “sweet tea liqueur made using a traditional recipe from the southern states of the US”.

The 35% abv drink is being served in a branded jam jar, mixed with lemonade, selling for £1.99 a measure.

On-trade account manager Spencer Garner said: “We worked closely with JD Wetherspoon to bring this product to the UK and we’re very excited about how it goes down with consumers.”?The Jeremiah Weed range in the US includes two flavoured sweet tea vodkas. Firefly is also 35% abv and is claimed to be a 300,000-case brand in the US.
