Sierra Nevada marks 30th anniversary with special brews

29 October, 2010

Cult American brewer Sierra Nevada has released four special beers to mark its 30th anniversary.

Vertical Drinks is importing limited quantities of the beers, which are all collaborations between Sierra Nevada founder Ken Grossman and other notable personalities from the US microbrewing scene.

The line-up comprises: Fritz & Ken’s Ale, recommended for ageing; Charlie, Fred & Ken’s Imperial Helles Bock; the barley-wine style Jack & Ken’s Ale, and a blend of oak-aged Sierra Nevada Bigfoot and the brewery’s fresh Pale Ale called Our Brewer’s Reserve. All the beers are bottled in 75cl cage-and-cork bottles.

The beer names reference Grossman, Fritz Maytag of Anchor Brewing, Jack McAuliffe of New Albion Brewery, and writers and home brewers Fred Eckhardt and Charlie Papazian.

Vertical Drinks managing director Steve Holt said: “Ken and the team at Sierra Nevada are passionate about continuous improvement and innovation, and giving back to the community.

“This project sees over £25,000 going to US charities selected by these brewing pioneers.”?The number of breweries in the US has grown from around 50 to more than 1,500 since Sierra Nevada opened for business.
