Argentine wine app launched

29 October, 2010

Wines of Argentina has launched a social media application that aims to help consumers engage with the country’s wine.

Wine Guru gives users the chance to set up virtual vineyards and create a wine by selecting grapes, locations, harvest times, pricing and marketing strategies.

“The idea of Wine Guru is very simple – help consumers to engage with Argentine wine in a fun, interesting and interactive environment that puts them at the centre of the experience,” said Wines of Argentina’s Andrew Maidment. The game can be played at or through Facebook.

Meanwhile, Chile’s Cono Sur has launched an iPhone app that offers users a “personal sommelier” to guide them through their purchase. It includes barcode software that can scan Cono Sur bottles to bring up details including tasting notes, vintage, barrel ageing, food-matching and other useful information. Award-winning wines will show what awards they have won and give associated press comments.
