Lion strengthens Surfax line-up

Surfax has added beers from Sri Lankan brewer Lion to its range.

The company will be handling Lion Lager and Lion Stout, the latter of which was a favourite of late beer writer Michael Jackson. Bottles carry his endorsement of the brand as a “wonderfully assertive example of tropical stout”.

Lion has around 8% of the Sri Lankan beer market, according to Surfax, which will be selling 33cl and 62.5cl bottles.

Surfax managing director Peter Karsten said: “We specialise in taking unusual genuine imports into the UK and our portfolio is going from strength to strength. We are not interested in prosaic beverages; there’s nothing run-of-the-mill about our line-up.”

Hofmeister may need more than the bear essentials to succeed

So, George The Bear is back. It’s hard for some of us oldies to fathom, but there are those under, say, 40 who can’t actually remember Hofmeister and feel the cultural jolt supplied by the return of both the bear and the beer whose marketing campaigns it used to front.
