Cristal Champagne scam

12 November, 2010

Louis Roederer has appealed for help in tracking down the perpetrators of a potential email scam involving Cristal Champagne.

Spam emails asking for stocks of the prestige fizz on the promise of credit card details have been in wide circulation, with the producer’s name spelt wrong.

One email states: “We are interested in ordering 24 bottles of Louis Reoderer [sic] Crystal Champagne 2002 vintage (in gift boxes if available) for an event, but we need them on hand before then. Let us know how soon you can get them. We will get back to you with the credit card number as soon as we get the total cost for the cases and will arrange for pick-up at your location.” A Roederer statement said: “Louis Roederer’s UK distributor Maisons Marques & Domaines is fully aware of this scam and urges members of the trade to be vigilant if they receive any similar requests.” MMD is asking suspect emails to be sent to brand manager James Samson at james.samson@mmdltd.co.uk.
