Waitrose wine offer boosts sales
Published:  12 November, 2010

Waitrose is toasting the success of its 25% discounts on all wine and Champagne.

The promotion has helped boost sales in the week to November 6 by 10%, the retailer has reported.

Finance director Tom Athron said: “This promotion, which offers discounts on purchases of six bottles of wine or more, brought in some very large purchases by individual customers – one person at our Canary Wharf branch bought wines worth more than £8,000.”

For the third quarter ending October 30 Waitrose sales (excluding petrol) were up by 9%.

Athron said Waitrose was continuing to attract new shoppers “while existing customers are putting more items in their baskets”.
