Copestick Murray focuses on indies

Wine agency Copestick Murray has said it is focusing on independent retailers “more than ever before”.

It has taken on two additional members of staff for its specialist distribution arm, Source, to target wine shops which opened following First Quench’s demise.

Sally Barlow has joined as sales manager and David Clarke, formerly of Paragon Vintners, as sales director. “We’ve been expanding rather than cutting back since things started to become tight,” director Helen McGinn told OLN.

“We knew independent retailing was an area we should be doing more with. We’ve discovered how labour intensive it is, as it’s much more fragmented. It’s time and support-intensive, but now we have the people on the team to deal with that.”?McGinn said Source offered a bespoke service to retailers. “It won’t appear in the major multiples so it gives independents a point of difference,” she said.?

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
