Henry and Barry Chevallier Guild have developed Suffolk Blonde so far, a 5.2% abv English lager for the on-trade. Consultant Roger Mussche, the brewmaster behind Liefmans fruit beers, came up with the recipe.
Chevallier Brewing Co director Geoff Bradman told OLN: “At the moment we are focusing our efforts and energy on making sure the product is right and in the right outlets. If we continue to keep the pace we’re going at at the moment there’s no reason to see where we might take it next.”?Bradman said there were a couple more projects “on the go at the moment”.
“Our products will be at the top end of any category. Suffolk Blonde is positioned up against Peroni and those kind of guys. We won’t be looking at cask ale – in our view that’s serviced by a plethora of superb products that we couldn’t better,” he added.
Suffolk Blonde is currently brewed at Shepherd Neame’s Faversham brewery in Kent. Bradman said any future beers would be made by “the brewery best suited to brew the kind of beer we had developed with Roger”.
He added the Eden Centre was repropagating the Chevallier barley discovered by past generations of the family and although there were no plans to use it in the near future he said: “Who knows what might happen with it?”?Australia’s Little Creatures beer range is also in the Aspall portfolio, and is available in Oddbins and specialist off-licences.
