'Online wine too expensive' – survey

14 December, 2010

Potential online wine shoppers are put off because they think it’s too expensive and don’t want to pay for delivery, a You Gov survey for the Wine & Spirit Trade Association has shown.

The poll showed that 14% of British adults buy wine online, but a third say they would consider doing so in future.

Half of those buying wine online do so less than four times a year.

Of those who don’t, a quarter say it’s because wine is too expensive online, a fifth don’t want to pay for delivery, and 14 % don’t want to wait in for deliveries to arrive.

WSTA chief executive Jeremy Beadles said: “These figures show there is clearly scope for growth in online wine sales.”
