Ice cider developed to round off meal

07 January, 2011

Cider producer Once Upon A Tree has used ice wine production principles to make a dessert ice cider and dessert pear “ice wine”.

Cidermaker Simon Day said: “I like to make cider and perry to accompany food, and wanted to achieve a dessert cider and perry that had the intensity and fruit of a true dessert wine, to be a perfect accompaniment to a pudding or cheese course.

“By using ice wine principles, to concentrate sweetness and flavour, we have achieved two very special, intense, sweet and fruity pudding drinks: Blenheim Superb Dessert Ice-cider and the Wonder Dessert Pear Ice-wine.” The products follow the launch of Blenheim Orange Dessert Cider last year. Blenheim Superb 2009 is available in 37.5cl bottles with an rrp of £15.95 and an abv of 7.5%. The Wonder 2009 has an rrp of £19.95 for 37.5cl and an abv of 12%.
