“I see independents as being very important in telling the story behind the wine and the producers,” director Jason Haynes told OLN.
“That’s not going to get told in supermarkets or restaurants.”?Sam Clarke and Haynes, former buyer at wine merchant OW Loeb, set up London-based Flint Wines in 2006. They have recently expanded the team by taking on master sommelier Gearoid Devaney to head up the company’s restaurant division.
The business has been concentrating on serving private customers, but Haynes and Clarke now want to find more independent wine shops to do business with.
Haynes said the company, which sources wines from small growers in Burgundy and the Rhône, could supply mixed cases to smaller outlets.
“We’re quite a small team and we can be fairly fluid,” he said.
Flint Wines has expanded its US range, which includes producers Snowden, Cristom, Rochioli and Gramercy.
