Makro takes on vodka with added bite?

04 February, 2011

Wholesaler Makro claims to have an exclusive until March on a vodka brand containing a scorpion in each bottle.

Skorppio – owned by the privately-run Spanish firm Rodrigo Rodriguez – is being given its first full UK trade release through importer World of Drink, though it is already available through several online retailers.

The vodka is being produced in the UK, and Makro is selling bottles at £15.99 and cases of six at £91.74 ex-VAT.

The edible scorpions in the bottles are bred in Mexico in a pesticide-free environment, especially for human consumption, with the venom removed.

Makro UK managing director Hannes Floto said: “Scorpions are considered a delicacy in many countries.

“Vodka containing a scorpion is often used by bartenders to make jugs of cocktails, with the drinker who gets the scorpion in their glass considered to be lucky.”

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas
