Grupo Codorníu is launching Raimat Gran Brut, a traditional method sparkler made in DO Costers del Segre from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (rrp £14.99). The company will be showcasing what it says is Spain’s first blanc de noirs – Codorníu Reina Maria Cristina Blanc de Noirs 2008 (rrp £17.99). New vintages from Raimat will be on taste among 10 brands from seven regions around Spain, including Legais from Ribera del Duero and Rueda, Leiras from Rías Baixas and Scala Dei from Priorat.??Clink Wines will unveil an “innovative new product” that aims to convert 18 to 25-year-old women to the wine category by being trendy, non-intimidating and easy to drink. The agency will launch a range of sparkling wines called La Capilla – consisting of an Airen/Macabeo/Verdejo sparkling white and a Garnacha

sparkling rosé (rrp £5.99-£6.99). It will also present wines from its new partnership with Vinigalicia, and showcase new wines from Rioja and Catalunya.??PLB is introducing Torito Bravo, a “fun and funky” wine that is new to the UK and comes in red, white and rosé, blended from international and Spanish grapes (rrp £4.99). Viñedos de Aldenueva is launching Culto 2007 from Rioja, a Graciano/Tempranillo blend that has aged for a year in French and American oak barrels and is targeted at independents and the on-trade (rrp £19.49). Focusing on this market, PLB will also be showing wines from Navarra’s Ochoa range – including the new vintage of Ochoa Rosado de Lagrima 2010 (rrp £9.49). There will also be a number of sweet and sparkling wines on taste.??Free Run Wines will be celebrating Viña Albali overtaking Campo Viejo, Torres and Berberana to become the UK’s top-selling Spanish wine brand by volume, according to Nielsen. It will also unveil new vintages from Toro-based Pagos del Rey’s Bajoz range, ahead of a UK launch once the brand has been repackaged.??A new varietal range from Bodegas Chivite will be on taste at 10 International’s stand. The bodega will also unveil new vintages, as will Paco & Lola, which joined 10 International in November, and Marqués de Atrio.??Myliko will unveil wines from Finca Tobello in Catalunya and Bodegas Francisco Casas’ Camparrón label in Toro. Latest vintages from Bodegas Lozano, Bodegas Covila in Rioja and the Clearly Organic range from Granduc in La Mancha and Garci Grande in Rueda will also be on taste.

Four wineries have joined the Bibendum stable and will be making their debut with the agency at the fair. Adega A Coroa from Valdeorras, which produces Bibendum’s first Godello 2009 (rrp £12.99); Bodegas Tomas Cuisiné from Costers del Segre; Bodegas Campiña from Toro and Bodegas Vinos Valtuille from Bierzo will all be showing new wines.??Bodegas Santalba is making its first appearance since it changed its name from Santiago Ijalba, with Patriarche Wine Agencies. New releases include Santalba 2009, an organic Rioja tinto made from 100% Tempranillo – which tests show has the highest levels of resveratrol of any wine in the world, according to Patriarche.??Rioja’s Bodegas Muriel is releasing new brand Viña Eguia, which will be on taste alongside premium Marqués D’Elciego single vineyard Riojas and Real Compania and Reales Vinedos from the Castilla region.

Ehrmanns has split its stand into two. Half of it will be devoted to independents, e-commerce and the on-trade with Ehrmanns Independent Selection presenting a range of wines from Paternina, Williams & Humbert and new ranges from Bodegas Valdesil and Losada Vinos De Finca. The other half will target the grocery and multiple sectors, with wines from Castillo de Calatrava, Villa Malea and Castillo La Paz alongside new wines from Carta Roja and Villamalea and sherries from Williams & Humbert. Winemaker Immaculada Perez from Viniberia will be at the stand to answer visitors’ questions.

Bottle Green is launching a Joven Rioja made by Bodega Antigua Usanza. Escena aims to offer something different from other Joven Riojas in the market and stand out on shelves thanks to its contemporary packaging. It is also releasing new brand Caballo de Plata, which means “silver horse” and was inspired by Don Quixote’s skinny work-horse Rocinante. The brand has three tiers – DO La Mancha Tempranillo/Cabernet Sauvignon, Airén/Sauvignon Blanc and Tempranillo/Cabernet Sauvignon Rosado at the entry level, followed by a single varietal Tempranillo, Verdejo and Tempranillo Rosado, and a top tier of DO Valencia Reserva and Gran Reserva.??Hallgarten Druitt has boosted its Spanish range with wines from Javier Sanz Viticultor in Rueda, which specialises in the native Verdejo grape. It will also show off new wine Monte Hermoso Joven from Ribera del Duero.

C&D Wines is offering “ever more obscure wines from every corner of Spain”, including dry Muscats from Malaga, Mencia from Bierzo and Pinot Noir from Alicante. Bodegas Muga will show its new traditional method sparkler Conde de Haro, while Spanish beer Inedit, designed by Ferran Adrià of El Bulli, will also be on taste.??Hatch Mansfield is releasing two modern-style wines from CVNE – Monopole Viura 2010 and Monopole Tempranillo 2008. New CVNE barrel-fermented Blanco 2009 will also be on taste.

So, George The Bear is back. It’s hard for some of us oldies to fathom, but there are those under, say, 40 who can’t actually remember Hofmeister and feel the cultural jolt supplied by the return of both the bear and the beer whose marketing campaigns it used to front.
