Wines of Germany to push Riesling in UK

Wines of Germany is gearing up for a summer of promotion around the country’s most famous grape with the focus on the UK’s first Riesling Week.?The event runs from July 23 to 31 and will see independent retailers encouraged to run customer promotions to highlight Riesling’s versatility, quality and food-matching capabilities.?The best-performing retailer will win £1,000 towards new German wine listings, with £500 for the runner-up.?POS material will be available to help participating retailers.?“With consumers increasingly looking for lighter, aromatic wines, now is the time for the trade to really get behind German Riesling and show everyone what they’ve been missing out on in recent years,” said Nicky Forrest, UK managing director of Wines of Germany.?“We’re looking forward to working with independent merchants to make Riesling Week a real success.”?Shops wanting to get involved should email

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
