Italy arranges UK wine tasting event

12 January, 2007

The Italian Trade Commission (ICE) is organising its first UK generic wine tasting - Borsa Vini - at Chelsea Football Club on March 6 and a similar event in Dublin on March 8.

According to Fabrizio di Clemente, director for trade promotion at ICE, the event is the result of new funding from the Italian government. The cash injection will also allow for a greater number of Italian regions to exhibit at the London Wine Fair in May.

Borsa Vini will be attended by about 60 small and medium-sized producers including wineries with representation here and small boutique producers seeking agents. Those signed up so far include Casa Vinicola Calatrasi (Sicily); Villa Frattini (Frulli); Cantina Dragani (Abruzzo) and Feudi della Medusa (Sardinia).

The development has been welcomed by importers of Italian wines including David Gleave of Liberty Wines who described it as "very positive".

For further details about Borsa Vini contact Alessandra Bottaro at ICE on 020 7389 0300. Other major Italian wine events this year include Vinitaly in Verona on March 29 to April 2 and the Definitive Italian Wine Tasting organised by Hunt & Coady returns to Lord's on June 27.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
