Casas del Bosque's 2006 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc won Best Wine in Show, demonstrating the Casablanca winery's consistency for a third year, while another five of the same variety were awarded gold medals.
Vi˝a Hacienda Araucano's Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 won best Cabernet Sauvignon - the second time the winery has won that section, with seven other wines from that variety also being awarded gold.
Nine American judges made special mention of the consistent excellence of the country's powerful Cabernet Sauvignons and said its cool climate was producing distinctive Sauvignon
The judges awarded 31 gold, 83 silver and 126 bronze medals after blind tasting 425 wines from 95 vineyards.
Following the awards ceremony in Santiago on Jan 12, Michael Cox, Wines of Chile's UK director, said: "It's gratifying to see the Annual Awards becoming well established. As in previous years, the judges have brought into sharp focus the giant strides forward Chile has made in the premium wine market internationally."
