New boss for Gallo off-trade

09 February, 2007

Gallo has appointed Mark Tinsley to replace Lloyd Stephens as off-trade director.

Stephens left Gallo at the end of January to step into Alex Anson's shoes as trading director at Thresher. Tinsley was previously Gallo's business unit manager for grocery.

Stephens' old role as UK sales director has been split into off and on-trade roles, with another internal appointment, Roger Boucher, taking the on-trade side.

Gallo has also promoted Nick Elkin to the role of grocery and retail development controller, and Ian Thomas to impulse channel controller, both reporting to Tinsley.

Tinsley, who will report to western Europe sales director David Bradley, said: "Last year we saw tremendous growth following the launch of the Gallo Family Vineyard brand.

"This year, we will continue to work with our customers to fulfil their particular needs. The new management team will enable us to do that and fully address the opportunities in the industry."

ACNielsen figures for 2006 show Gallo's total UK sales increased by just short of 24 per cent, to more than 5.5 million cases.

Welcoming the wine rookie

Itís all true. Wine writers loaf around in a state of partial inebriation and partial undress, bitching about having to taste free wine all day and using recondite words like malolactic, terroir and recondite.†
