Pear alternative from Thatchers

Somerset cidermaker Thatchers has launched a pear cider, a blend of cider and perry.

The 4.5 per cent abv drink is made by adding fermented pear juice to fermented apple juice . Thatchers said the pears bring a fresh, light and distinctive flavour to its cider.

Managing director Martin Thatcher said: "We are expecting another tremendous year for the cider category in 2007. Our customers tell us they appreciate the quality and flavour we deliver, and we are confident that Thatchers Pear Cider will help quench the thirst for English ciders this summer.

"Innovation goes hand in hand with the name of Thatchers, and we know the market is ready to try a refreshing alternative to summer favourites."

Hofmeister may need more than the bear essentials to succeed
