France in New World move

France's biggest wine exporter has signed a deal to handle UK sales of brands owned by Chilean wine producer San Pedro. Les Grands Chais de France is taking on San Pedro's 35° South - previously with Buckingham Vintners - and Castillo de Molina brands from Chile, plus the Finca La Celia portfolio from Argentina. It will also represent San Pedro on own-label and exclusive-label. Tim North, UK director of Les Grands Chais de France, said the aim was to create "a new force for wines from South America".

Anti-fraud group expansion

The WSTA has called for the Joint Spirit Fraud Task Force to be re named and expanded, with wine and warehousing sectors becoming members, and observer status given to sectors such as cash and carry. The group was set up to ease the transfer of fraud-related intelligence to HM Revenue & Customs, but the WSTA said the remit of the group is too narrow.

It said that widening the membership of the anti-fraud group would give the drinks industry greater confidence that effective steps would be taken.
