Hot topic: Top selling white varietals

Consumers have turned their backs on Chardonnay and are not as keen on Pinot Grigio as you may have thought before seeing the results of OLN's mini-survey. We picked 10 retailers from our database of 512 wine specialists and asked them about their best-selling white grape variety. Six said Sauvignon Blanc was on top while only two reported Chardonnay leading the pack.

Some said Pinot Grigio and Viognier do well. It is heartening to know that, with the right education , customers will be more adventurous . Theatre of Wine in Greenwich sells larger quantities of Riesling than any other variety due to tastings .

Hofmeister may need more than the bear essentials to succeed

So, George The Bear is back. Itís hard for some of us oldies to fathom, but there are those under, say, 40 who canít actually remember Hofmeister and feel the cultural jolt supplied by the return of both the bear and the beer whose marketing campaigns it used to front.
