Sainsbury's adds Icke to wine buying team

Sainsbury's has expanded its wine buying team with a new appointment.

Former Constellation account manager Rachael Icke joins the seven-strong team as buyer for North America, Germany, boxes and 25cl wines.

The team has been restructured following Icke's appointment. Julian Dyer takes responsibility for Australia and New Zealand; Abigail Hirshfeld handles France, Spain, South America and fine wine ; Melissa Draycott is in charge of fortified, Champagne and sparkling ; and Michelle Smith looks after Italy, South Africa, UK, organics and Fairtrade .

Online wine and Calais planning, marketing and operations will be shared by Victoria Celaschi and Natasha Marroni, who also looks after in-store wine boxes.

Judith Jerodiaconou completes the team as store communications manager.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
