Matchmaking for the unrepresented

06 April, 2007

The International Wine Challenge is holding a dedicated tasting for wines with no UK distribution seeking an importer.

The Discovery Tasting, on May 2 at London's Barbican, will include medal winners, trophy winners and some champion wines. Last year, wines from 25 countries, including 38 gold medal winners, were on show.

Trade buyers will have a "rare opportunity to taste at their leisure" and find new wines to add to their portfolios.

Wines will be laid out by country, region, grape variety and style. The free tasting is open to buyers, agents, wholesalers, somme liers and journalists. E-mail iwc@william-reed.co.uk, or check www.internationalwinechallenge.com.

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
