Value sales have shot up by 600 per cent since the retailer started selling it in 2000. Last summer, wines from New Zealand outsold those from Australia.
At Majestic's summer press tasting, Pym said stores were stocking 13 lines from New Zealand for the summer, but he was "looking for more ".
Wines made from Sauvignon Blanc are the top-sellers at Majestic . Buying director Justin Apthorp, said: "We sell more of it now than Chardonnay, and there is also a trend for people buying more interesting grape varieties. People are becoming more adventurous."
Apthorp said Majestic was also seeing growth of Pinot Noir and that consumers were showing renewed interest in vintage Champagne. He described vintage fizz as "stunning value for money ... Champagne sales are going from strength to strength."
