Sainsbury's lists Brakspear Bitter

20 April, 2007

Brakspear Bitter is being launched in a 50cl bottle and will be listed in Sainsbury's stores nationwide from the end of this month.

The beer has been available in cask for decades, but this is the first time it has appeared in the off-trade.

Brewed with Fuggles and Goldings hops and Brakspear yeast, and using the brewery's famous "double drop" fermentation system, the 3.4 per cent abv beer is red amber coloured with a tight white head .

Jeremy Moss, Wychwood's head brewer, said: "I am thrilled that the complex flavours, which are the hallmark of Brakspear Bitter, have been preserved so well in this bottle ."

Said to be ideal with fish and chips or a ploughman's , the ale is described as "gently effervescent giving a warming, sweet malty toffee flavour, a citrus bitterness and a hint of saltiness".
