Bears 'n' booze too grisly for Portman

Bears and booze have again proved an inadvisable combination for Asda, which has been asked to withdraw a gift pack for the second time in 12 months.

The Portman Group said the Chocolate and Cream gift pack, which included a soft toy bear, Baileys miniature and a mug, appealed to under-18s.

Portman chief executive David Poley said: "These companies have overstepped the mark with this irresponsible marketing. The Portman Group has repeatedly warned the industry about the risks of selling alcohol with cuddly toys.

"We are pleased that swift action has been taken to remove this product from sale. In future, we hope that all alcohol gift-pack producers will seek pre-sale advice on responsible marketing ."

Last June, Asda was asked to stop selling a Bubbly and Bear gift pack, produced by Blue Sky Beverage Co.
