Armagnac that's clearly different

04 May, 2007

A clear Armagnac has made its debut on the spirits market after been given the go-ahead by French authorities.

La Blanche can only be made from four specific grape varieties - Folle Blanche, Ugni Blanc, Colombard and Baco Blanc - although producers can use a single variety. It is the first AOC eaux-de-vie to impose strict rules from the vine through to the finished product.

Producers expect to release 10,000 bottles of La Blanche . Although the bottle shape and label graphics will not have to conform to specific requirements, the BNIA, generic body for Armagnac, will be advising producers on technical presentation.

What makes wine special

Reaching the 50th instalment of Hemmingís Way is hardly the biggest milestone, but I donít need much of an excuse to pour myself a glass of champagne before getting dressed. Itís a better reason than I had for all 49 other instalments, anyway. Not that that stopped me.
