EU backs down over standard bottles

The Scotch Whisky Association has welcomed an EU decision to retain standard bottle sizes for spirits following a seven-year campaign.

The European Commission proposed abolishing th e nine-strong range of sizes.

Following representations by the SWA and other EU spirits producers, the Commission has decided to retain the set bottle sizes for spirit drinks.

Nick Soper, SWA European affairs director, said: " Research shows consumers prefer standard sizes ."
