Monteith's is a 5 per cent abv pilsner flavoured with late New Zealand hops and matured in open fermenters. It comes in a 33cl green glass bottle with a black and silver cap and label, and its upright shovel logo links the beer to the gold mining period of the 1800s, when Monteith's was first brewed.
The lager is currently in Corney & Barrow bars in London's City, and distributor Tiger Beer UK plans to launch it in Waitrose and Booths.
Monteith's New Zealand business development manager Andy Daniells said: "We have brought Monteith's to the UK because we recognised there was a gap in the market for a genuinely imported New Zealand lager. The UK premium beer market is a dynamic market experiencing considerable growth and with the advent of the warm summer months, we believe now is a good time for the discerning lager drinker in the UK to discover the crisp, refreshing taste of Monteith's and capture a little bit of the adventurous Kiwi spirit!"
Tiger's Gemma Adams added: "The growing interest in this category has seen imported beers enjoy double digit growth, and with the number of New Zealanders residing in the UK we already have a huge number of brand advocates in place."
