Heineken has opened a mobile café to woo British drinkers to a continental-style drinking culture. The 400-capacity bar launched at the Heineken Cup Final at Twickenham and will be touring the UK over the summer, offering pavement drinking, table service, continental-style food and a DJ playing a continental set. Customer marketing controller Chris Duffy said: "The experiential programme forms a major part of our new marketing campaign which focuses on delivering better drinking experiences for consumers."

Blackthorn £1m campaign

Gaymer Cider Company is ploughing £1 million into a regional ad campaign for Blackthorn cider in the south west.

A series of outdoor ads showing south west landmarks - including Bristol's Clifton suspension bridge and the Somerset County Cricket Ground in Taunton - launched this week, with the strapline Blackthorn Country. Gaymers has also launched its annual Green Apple and Young Orchard competition, which aims to recognise and award good practice in orchard management and environmental policies.

Spanish cider launch

PLB is introducing Spain's biggest-selling cider, El Gaitero, into the UK. The 6.8 per cent abv cider and its labels have been adjusted to suit UK tastes, will come in wine-style bottles and can be drunk with or without ice. PLB's Don Hawkes said: "With the big cider brands driving massive growth in the category, there is potential for smaller niche products to find a market among more adventurous consumers."
