Younus moves on

Barrel Booze sales and marketing director Imran Younus has left the wholesaler to start a career in commercial property.Younus's former role has been split into separate sales and marketing functions. Ishwinder Binning will take over as sales director, and the appointment of a new marketing director will be announced shortly. Younus, who worked for Whyte & Mackay and Invergordon before joining the Luton-based business, has focused on developing independent-only brands including Luxus and Primus beers during his time at the company.

Smith wins wine fair contest

Sainsbury's BWS manager Tracey Smith is the winner of William Reed's London wine fair competition. The publisher, which counts Off Licence News, Wine & Spirit and Drinks International among its portfolio, ran a "guess the logo" competition at its LIWSF stand. Tracey, of Sainsbury's Goldalming, Surrey, branch, wins a Pure Digital Evoke 1 Prestige radio.

Radical racers

Bruichladdich distillery is sponsoring a motor racing team at Le Mans, where cars drive for 24 hours on an 8.47 mile circuit. Team Bruichladdich Radical is heading to France tomorrow (June 16) to compete in the race. Last month the Bruichladdich team won its first podium in the SR9 car at a six-hour race in Spain. Capital gains

Pernod Ricard is continuing its overhaul of Beefeater Gin with the relaunch of a website focusing on the brand's London heritage. At, users can navigate a map of London with different areas of the capital corresponding to elements of the brand. Hoxton plays host to a London Art section, where users can design images to be made into e-cards or printed on T-shirts. The top designs will win an art-lover's weekend in London and a guided tour of the distillery. Also featured on the site are three podcasts that focus on the brand's history and heritage.

Fusions links art and music

InBev is launching a print and digital ad campaign to drive awareness of Beck's Fusions events over the summer. The ads will highlight a series of events "challenging leading contemporary art and music talent to join forces and create original and inspiring performances".The ad campaign will feature images from the art and music worlds combined, offering consumers one of 5,000 pairs of tickets.

Gascon puts up umbrella

Gascon-based co-operative Plaimont has released an umbrella range specifically targeted at the independent sector. Rive Haut includes a trio of Saint Mont red, white and rosé, as well as an AOC Madiran and an AOC Pacherenc du Vic Bihl. The range is made up of Colombard/Sauvignon, Tannat/Cabernet rosé and Merlot/Tannat, all from south west France. Single varietal Sauvignon Blanc and Tannat are also available in smaller quantities.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
