Drinkaware reveals new chief exec

27 June, 2007

The Drinkaware Trust has appointed its first permanent chief executive.

Social marketer Jean Collingwood will replace interim chief executive Kevin Byrne when she takes up the post on July 23.

Collingwood, who has worked in both the charity and business sectors for the past 15 years, will help to drive things forward at the charity, which formed in January.

Debra Shipley, chair of the Drinkaware board, said: "Jean brings energy and dynamism to the post, which together with her professional skills will, I am certain, enable her to move Drinkaware to its next active phase. I am very pleased to be able to work with her."

Collingwood will run the charity, which aims to reduce alcohol misuse and alcohol-related harm, with help from 13 trustees.

Byrne, who went on secondment from the government at the end of 2006 to help set up the charity, will start a new job in local government.
