Enotria tips Fiano to top Pinot Grigio

29 June, 2007

Italian wine supplier Enotria has backed Fiano as the grape variety to rival Pinot Grigio in popularity.

Enotria said it had seen "30 per cent more medals won by Fiano than Pinot Grigio across the 2007 trade competitions". Its Sicilian Mandrarossa Fiano was crowned Best Italian White at the International Wine Challenge, while Waitrose is promoting INYCON Fiano over the summer.

Italian wine buyer Sergio de Luca said: "We have seen a significant move this year towards Fiano and other southern Italian white wines, from Pinot Grigio. This is something we are strongly behind, as it is undoubtedly of benefit to the Italian category as a whole."
