Drinks giant Diageo has lodged a planning application for its £40 million distillery in Roseisle, Scotland. The proposed new distillery is part of the company's £100 million expansion plan , announced in February. The capacity of the new distillery will help meet anticipated long-term demand from growing markets such as Brazil, Russia, India, China and Mexico. Diageo hopes building will begin this year with the distillery opening in early 2009. The first mature spirit from the plant will be available from 2012.
Organic wines launched
Argentinian producer Michel Torino has launched a range of organic wines to the UK market via Hallgarten. Made from estate-grown fruit, the range consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Torrontes and has an rrp of £5.99. The range, which arrives in early August, is aimed primarily at independent retailers and restaurants.
FirstCape into independents
FirstCape, the South African wine brand from Brand Phoenix, is hoping to replicate some of its recent success in the multiple grocery sector among independents. The wine is being made available to the sector through a tie-up with SHS Sales & Marketing, the distribution company whose brands include WKD, Merrydown and Shloer. OLN's Wine Report shows FirstCape sales up by 66 per cent.
