Cider's on the Up with pear variant

Scottish & Newcastle UK is to launch a pear cider from Finland designed to be poured over ice.

Upcider Pear has 4.5 per cent abv and will be available in 12x50cl bottles from August. It is targeted at 25 to 49-year-old men and women who currently drink white and rosé wines or spirit mixers.

Craig Clarkson said: "The introduction of Upcider Pear will create additional consumer choice in a growth sector . Upcider will bring new drinkers into the cider category by offering a new, appealing flavour."

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
