What would you recommend to a customer wanting to splash out?
Top end Rhône as it offers quality and value.
When you're not working, how do you seek your thrills?
Watching Newcastle United Football Club. Not many thrills last season but I am ever hopeful.
Which celebrity do you most admire?
Boris Johnson, he adds colour to politics
by talking a lot of sense.
Is there such a thing as an irresponsible drink?
Yes, when you have had one too many.
After a hard day's work, what drink do you kick back and relax with?
Tea! I am in an alcohol-free zone at the moment endeavouring to shed a few pounds. Under normal circumstances it would be a glass of Joseph Perrier Champagne.
If you could choose anyone to be prime minister, who would it be and why?
Gordon Ramsay - it would make Prime Minister's Question Time volatile and exciting.
Would you still work in the drinks industry if you were reincarnated?
Definitely, as it's a very friendly industry, especially the independent merchants. Even if we are competing against each other, people are prepared to exchange information with each other freely - this is not always the case in other industries.
Which retailer do you most admire?
Berry Bros & Rudd - they have managed to retain their old world charm yet have moved with the times and have an interesting and broad based wine list.
If you could change one thing about the drinks industry, what would it be?
happy hour. Alcohol needs to be savoured, not thrown down the neck.
What's your philosophy in a nutshell?
To try to treat my fellow human beings as I would wish to be treated myself.
