New guidance, released jointly by the Health & Safety Commission and Health & Safety Executive yesterday, aims to simplify and cut the cost of the risk assessment process for small and medium size businesses.
An example risk assessment document has been created specifically for small shops to give retailers a better idea of what they need to do to stay within the law.
British Retail Consortium health and safety policy advisor Annabel Berdy, said: “Dealing with something as complex as health and safety law in between making orders and stacking shelves can be a tough task, particularly in the past when there has been a genuine lack of clear and accessible advice on the subject.
“This document provides a very simple and concise way of assessing workplace risk and identifying any areas that need to be improved in order to meet legal compliance. I would encourage all small to medium sized enterprises that don’t already have an assessment process in place to adopt the HSE guidance.”
