NotWood? Surely not ...

Gift box maker BoxMart has launched what it says is an environmentally friendly alternative to wooden presentation boxes. NotWood is cardboard printed to make it look like wood. It packs flat to fit up to 600 boxes in the same space as 190 wooden boxes of the same size, is made from 95 per cent recycled material and is 100 per cent recyclable.

Cains 'progress' despite loss

Liverpool's Cains Beer Company has announced a pre-tax loss of £1.79 million in the year to April 29, compared to a £13.47 million loss last year, after its reverse takeover of Honeycombe Leisure last month. Chief executive Sudarghara Dusanj said the results are what he expected at this stage after the takeover, which has meant eight redundancies at Honeycombe's former headquarters in Preston. English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
