Charity auction to raise funds for Tarayan bursary

Colleagues and friends of wine importer, restaurateur and journalist Nick Tarayan - struck down by a serious illness two years ago - are to hold a fundraising event in his name at Middle Temple Hall in central London on Sept 17.

The event will

raise money for a minibus for the Fairlie House Hospice where Nick is being cared for. It

will also help set

up a wine education bursary in Nick's name to encourage the next generation

.

The evening is supported by the Champagne Academy .

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
