Bordeaux exports to the UK are seeing a slow recovery, with red volumes climbing 3 per cent to 206,800hl in 2006 after a slump below 200,000hl in 2003-4, according to the CIVB. It said the biggest growth came from prestigious appellations such as Médoc and Libournais, with the 2003 vintage having a strong impact. Exports of Bordeaux whites fell 2 per cent to 50,800hl, with overall exports rising 2 per cent to 257,600hl.
Worldwide Bordeaux has seen slow volume growth offset by huge increases in value - up 20 per cent to
E1,272 billion. The UK is Bordeaux's third-biggest European export market, behind Belgium & Luxembourg and Germany, and ahead of the Netherlands and Denmark. Apart from the UK, exports to all these markets either stagnated or declined in 2006.
