The New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and Australian Shiraz rosé will go on shelves from the beginning of August, with more wines potentially being added to the range if the first two are successful.
Producers of branded wines are already said to be interested in bottling their wines in plastic bottles - Wolf Blass is planning to launch its Green Label range in Sainsbury's in mid-August.
Plastic, or PET, bottles are said to be kinder to the environment than glass, because they weigh much less. A 75cl plastic wine bottle for example, weighs 54g, whereas the same size glass bottle weighs 400g.
With the UK consuming around 1 billion bottles of wine a year, the Waste & Resources Action Programme says changing bottles to the lightest available could reduce carbon emissions by about 90,000 tonnes.
Sainsbury's also said the plastic bottles, which look like traditional wine bottles and are sealed under screwcap, are more robust and safer than glass.
The wines will be bottled in the UK rather than at source and will be priced £4.99 for the Sauvignon Blanc and £3.99 for the rosé.

Harvey Miller Wine & Spirit Agencies has introduced a portfolio of wines to the off-trade. The international range includes Lancers and Periquita from Portugal, Tittarelli from Argentina and Château Los Boldos from Chile. Managing director Alistair Mutch said: "We work closely with the wineries to ensure they are aware of the market needs and our portfolio has been chosen to meet the requirements of all our customers."
The Tulipak - a non-shattering pre-filled wine glass - is now available for the impulse purchase market in a take-home twin-pack format.
The Tulipak is heat-sealed with a foil lid and is recyclable. Each twin-pack contains two Tulipaks of Australian Chardonnay, Shiraz or rosé wine, each holding 18.75cl - equivalent to a quarter of a standard bottle.
Italian specialist supplier Enotria has changed its name to Enotria World Wine to highlight its growing international portfolio. The company says Italian wine will remain central to its business as it expands its range. It has also agreed to market and sell wines from Barossa-based Peter Lehmann, as well as distributing wines from the sister companies in the Hess Group - Glen Carlou of South Africa, the Hess Collection from Napa Valley, California and Bodegas Colomé in Argentina.
Next year's Terroirs & Signatures de Bourgogne Burgundy tasting will return next year at a new venue, the Nursery Pavilion at Lords Cricket Ground. The tasting, which takes place from 10am to 5.30pm, will be the biggest yet with 100 producers presenting their 2005 and 2006 vintages.
The Prosecco DOC di Conegliano-Valdobbiadene Consortium will present its first major trade and press -UK tasting for 32 of its most important producers on Oct 15 at the Institute of Directors on London's Pall Mall. Exhibitors include Adami, Agostinetto, Bellenda, Canella, La Marca, Toffoli and Villa Sandi. A Prosecco DOC masterclass and guided tasting will be led by Peter McCombie MW.
Boisset's PET bottles are a hit in north America
Boisset is rolling out Yellow Jersey, its PET-packaged southern French wine range, to the European market after successful trials in north America.
President Jean-Charles Boisset said: "With Yellow Jersey, we have one goal: to offer wines of unsurpassed quality in a convenient, environmentally-friendly package, that consumers will truly enjoy."
The range consists of four single varietal wines - Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, and Pinot Noir .
Boisset introduced the French Rabbit Tetra Pak in 2005.
