Montgomerie's has relaunched its range of single cask malt whiskies with packaging that emphasises the regional differences of each one. The Single Cask Collection bottles now have colour-coded labels showing which of the five main whisky-producing regions the spirit is from. The bottles are packaged in matt black boxes with embossed branding. A spokesman said the change "aims to capture today's drinkers who are increasingly aware of regional variations".

Glengoyne is planning to launch a range of Shiraz cask finish whiskies later this year. The distillery is using casks sourced from Glenguin Winery in Australia's Hunter Valley. Twenty have been filled with 16 Year Old Glengoyne and will be released later this year as Glengoyne Glenguin Shiraz Cask Finish if the distillery is pleased with the results.

lThe Black Bottle Islay Jazz Festival returns on Sept 14 and 16 this year. Highlights include musicians such as Ken Peplowski, Tommy Smith and the Scottish Jazz All Stars. Leblon cachaça will be launched into the UK off-trade this summer. The Brazilian spirit is described as an "ultra-premium white cachaça", inspired by Leblon Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and aged in Cognac casks.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
