Friday night is the new Sunday lunch

23 August, 2007

Friday night has replaced Sunday lunchtime as the most popular family mealtime, according to research commissioned by Gallo.

Consumer research organisation The Future Foundation polled 6,000 UK households and 10,000 individuals to find that the number of adults eating a family Sunday lunch at home has dropped by more than half in two generations - from 12.7 million in 1961 to 6.2 million today.

Jane Hunter, marketing director for western Europe at Gallo Family Vineyards, said: "Sunday was traditionally the day when people would get together and spend quality time enjoying a good home cooked meal with wine.

"Today people are socialising more during in the week, but Sunday lunch is still a really important tradition and we would like to see it return as an occasion for people to spend time with each other."
