Wines of Argentina comes to Lord's

23 August, 2007

Wines of Argentina is gearing up for its annual tasting on Sept 19 at Lord's Cricket Ground.

Unusual grape varieties will be in the spotlight with the Off the Beaten Track satellite table showcasing wines made from Bonarda, Ancellota, Francesca, Caladoc and Tannat. Also on display will be sweet late harvest versions of Viognier and Torrontes, while among the dry whites Verdehlo, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris will be on taste.

A number of Argentin ian wine personalities will present a series of seminars throughout the day, including two on the theme of Malbec. The morning session will discuss Malbec and terroir based on a study carried out by the Alta Vista Winery, and an afternoon seminar will investigate the ageing ability of Malbec using a vertical tasting of fine wines hosted by Alejandro Fejanovich, vineyard director of Catena Zapata.

The Mendoza Malbecs 2007 table will showcase three wines from each of the top 10 sub-regions of Mendoza in a bid to highlight the varied personalities of Argentina's flagship variety, and the winner from the Malbec Made for Meat competition will also be announced.

To register, visit wines-of-argentina.co.uk or call the WofA office on 020 8 973 4023.
