The industry body received 63 entries from independent wine merchants, which it shortlisted to seven, two more than originally planned.
Warren Adamson, director of NZW UK & Europe said: “We were bowled over by this year’s entries which were the best yet. The finalists showed such a high level of creativity, drive, passion and enthusiasm for their promotions that we had to widen the net.”
In May entrants were asked to come up with ideas for in-store New Zealand wine promotions for the chance to win an all expenses paid trip for two to New Zealand.
Ideas submitted included tastings and outdoor events such as winery dinners and barbecues as well as imaginative window displays. Finalists impressed judges by linking up with restaurants and press as well as designing their own POS, posters and competitions.
The seven finalists - Champagne & Wine Cellar, Connolly’s Wine Merchants, Hennings Wine Merchants, James Nicholson Wine Merchants, Lancelot Wines, Lewis & Cooper and The Wright Wine Company - have won a trip for two to London where they will attend a dinner to announce the overall winner.
